USTAR files complaint against ARC
A complaint has been filed with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) following the decision by ARC to move to daily reporting.
The complaint has been made by the travel agent association, USTAR. It claims it can provide the DOJ with evidence that daily reporting by the ARC would lead to daily remittance, which would then lead to airlines shifting the cost of credit card transactions to agents.
USTAR president, Bruce Bishins (pictured) is requesting the DOJ prevent ARC from moving to daily reporting until it has been investigated.
USTAR has also requested that ARC provide detailed evidence to the DOJ to prove that agents have been abusing the voiding system – and until this is done – the ARC should be prevented from imposing new restrictions on the voiding procedure.
Mr Bishins has used the complaint, which has also been filed with the US Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Competition, to voice some of his other concerns about ARC. He says the company has changed significantly since it was granted corporation-status by the DOJ in 1984.
Among Mr Bishins’ complaints are the fact that ARC has expanded into the sale and settlement of non-air products, ARC’s per-transaction fees, and ARC’s accreditation of corporations and other non-agents.
