Saturday, 18 Jan, 2005 0

The Vas Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) plans to spend nearly $1.3 billion to contnue its role as one of the nation’s top tourist destinations.

Officials say they hope to draw another five million more visitors within the next five years to bring total visitors to 43 million by the end of 2008.

“We are number one and we are going to stay number one,” said LVCVA President Rossi Ralenkotter.

Mr Ralenkotter said reaching its goals will be difficult with the cruise industry, tribal casinos and other cities contining to compete heavily in the tourist market.

Las Vegas has about 131,000 rooms now but has a goal of reaching 151,000 hotel rooms by 2010.
