Wine Tourism funded on the Apple Isle

Tuesday, 10 July 20073 min read

Wine tourism on the Apple Isle will receive a boost, with the Australian Government providing funding of $138,000 for a Wine Industry Tasmania project aimed to boost wine tourism to Tasmania’s four key wine regions.

“Tasmania’s wines are held in high esteem by international and domestic tourists alike,” Fran Bailey, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, said.

“This project will further boost wine tourism on the Apple Isle, helping attract more big-spending tourists to Tasmanian wineries and regions.”

This two-year wine tourism marketing project involves four key wine routes, two in the regional areas of Tasmania and two close to major cities. A range of marketing materials will be developed for key target audiences.

“Wine tourism is worth big dollars to Australia, and with every additional tourism dollar we can attract to our regions, we can create even more jobs for Australians,” Fran Bailey said.

“Tourism is an $81 billion industry, creating jobs for half a million Australians and earning $20.5 billion in exports each year. Last year, overseas visitors poured an extra $1.8 billion into our economy.”

This funding has been provided under the Australian Tourism Development Program, which supports innovative and regional tourism projects.

The Australian Government is also providing Anvers Confectionery with $100,000 in ATDP funding to enhance its “House of Anvers Chocolate experience.

Visitors to the tourist facility can view production of hand-made chocolates, walk through a chocolate museum and taste the products at the shop.
