Worldchoice announces board election results

Friday, 6 July 20073 min read

Long term Worldchoice director John Lawrence has lost his place on the board following a tight election result.

Electoral Reform Services were requested to carry out a re-count due to the closeness of the result between the second and third places, following which the result was confirmed as unchanged.

There was only 0.03% between the second and third places, less than one shareholder’s vote.

Worldchoice said the turnout was one of the highest ever with 79% of eligible votes cast, of which the following percentages were achieved:

Helen Burgess (Didsbury and Purser’s Travel) 33.32%

Stuart Churm (shareholder) 24.49%

John Lawrence (Deeping Travel) 24.46%

Gordon Roberts (shareholder) 17.73%

Burgess was been re-elected to the Board of Worldchoice and will be joined by Churm. He replaces Lawrence who has been a director of Worldchoice since 2001 and has just completed a third term in office.

Churm is a former director of Vauxhall franchises group and was also previously a director of Worldchoice Travel, the commercial arm of the organisation.

The appointments only take effect following the Worldchoice Annual General Meeting due on September 6.

The AGM is likely to coincide with an Extraordinary General Meeting to vote on the proposed merger with the Global Travel Group.

Should the merger go ahead, the Worldchoice board would automatically be dissolved and replaced by a board of the new company, to be known as Triton Travel, the consortium said.
