An international organisation set up to help passengers claim their right to compensation for flight disruptions has revealed that passengers travelling from Manchester, Stansted and Gatwick are among those that suffer the worst delays.
Refund.me, which launched nine months ago, said it has successfully processed claims in over 50 countries involving 122 airlines, although it did not say how many passengers had received compensation using its service.
It said that users of its online widget and mobile app made the most claims for delayed flight arrivals at Frankfurt Airport. Manchester, Stansted and Gatwick were in second, third and fourth place, followed by Dusseldorf. Birmingham came ninth.
Passengers suffered the most flight cancellations from Frankfurt, followed by Franz Joseph Strauss in Munich and Charles de Gaulle in Paris. Gatwick was in fourth place and Heathrow came eighth and Manchester 10th.
Refund.me said London City was the UK airport where flights were most likely to arrive on time, followed by Stansted, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Gatwick came eighth on the list with an average delay of 12 minutes and 38 seconds, followed by Manchester with just over 13 minutes, compared with Heathrow – in 10th position – where the average delay last year was 13 minutes and 16 seconds.
