100 still missing in ferry tragedy
Around 100 people are still missing after a ferry sank off Papua New Guinea’s north coast yesterday.
Rescue teams are continuing to search for the missing, most of them university students.
Almost 250 survivors have already been pulled from the water by the joint Australian-PNG search and rescue teams.
No bodies have been found and officials say it is possible to survive for two or three days in the warm waters.
The MV Rabaul Queen, owned by Rabaul Shipping, sank with 350 passengers and 12 crew onboard.
Rabaul Shipping managing director Peter Sharp said: "We acknowledge that this has caused tremendous suffering. Our condolences go to the loved ones of those affected."
According to Australian media reports, relatives of the passengers threw rocks at the company’s office in Kimbe, angered by a lack of information.
