As many as 150 passengers are reportedly still stranded at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport after the airline they were supposed to be travelling with was banned from flying.
The Independent newspaper reports that officials in Paris banned Jordan Aviation from the city after a spot-check last month, with authorities in other countries being told of the French officials’ worries.
A spokesman for the French civil aviation authority is quoted as saying that the plane had been sent to the Jordanian capital Amman after “major security flaws” were discovered on the plane.
He reportedly said: “We were concerned about the age and condition of the aircraft and there were worrying gaps in its technical paperwork.”
The Independent goes on to report that the passengers, most of whom are from west Africa, have been put up at an airport hotel. In fact, many more were stranded; however, all but the last 150 had been put on to other flights.
The owner of Jordan Aviation, Mohammad Khachaman, is quoted as saying that there was “nothing wrong” with the aircraft and that he blames a competitor for the carrier being grounded.
