A different destination in the Baja

Tuesday, 22 July 20083 min read

The eco-friendly Las Animas Wilderness Retreat is only 468 air miles from cosmopolitan San Diego but it’s a different destination for a variety of reasons:

Ø It is so remote you can’t see any neighboring lights at night.

Ø Eco-friendly and self-sustaining.

Ø Modeled after a high-end safari experience.

Ø Offers a wildlife encounter similar to that found in the Galapagos.

Ø Price includes all-inclusive from air transport to alcoholic drinks.

It is the only “boat-in” lodge on the Sea of Cortez in Baja, Mexico, according to owners.

“The remote eco-lodge sits on a private, isolated bay, a one-hour by boat ride from Bahia de Los Angeles after a two-hour private flight from San Diego (the flight displaces a 12-hour drive by car). During small boat excursions from the lodge guests can view whale sharks (in season), dolphins, sea lions and over a dozen species of whales (including Blue whales – Earth’s largest mammal),” says a press release.

The compound offers eight private beachside yurts with bathroom, solar shower, twin and king-size beds with comforters and high thread count linens, and covered decks with hammocks. Lodging is built around a large, centrally located cabana with a spacious covered patio. It serves as kitchen, central dining area, cantina bar, and communal lounging and game area.
Baja AirVentures runs both the retreat and affiliated multi-sport, eco-tour programs based from the lodge.

All-inclusive adventures include four or six night accommodations, personal guides, meals, beer/margaritas, sightseeing activities and roundtrip air via San Diego.

Per person, double rates are from $1,495 for four days/three nights and from $1,695 for six days/five nights.
