Accor makes single-use plastic pledge

Tuesday, 23 Jan, 2020 0

Accor is the next hospitality giant pledging to rid its properties of single-use plastics.

It has a big undertaking on its hands with 39 hotel brands and nearly 5,000 hotels globally.

It has set a target of 2022 to eliminate all single-use plastics.

It builds on its earlier promise to remove plastic straws and stirrers by the end of 2020 as well as eliminating all single-use toiletry bottles.

So far about 94% of Accor’s hotels have eliminated straws, cotton buds and stirrers.

The new plastic crackdown will include the removal of plastic bags, food packaging, plastic take-away dishes and keycards.

It is part of a commitment it has made to join the UN Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

"We are aware of the significant impact we have on our planet and our responsibility to create tangible benefits for our employees, guests, suppliers, partners and host communities," said Sébastien Bazin, chairman and CEO of Accor.
