Agents ‘anxious’ over ABTA red tape

Thursday, 18 Jul, 2005 0

Midconsort has attacked ABTA for putting at risk the very agents it is supposed to protect.

Speaking at the consortium’s first domestic conference, chief executive Charles Eftichiou blamed Newman Street bureaucracy for putting agents through unnecessary hardship.

He said members suffer anxiety, expense and vast amounts of paperwork as ABTA look to weed out “rogue agents”.

“The vast majority suffer this burden all because ABTA can’t distinguish between good and bad agents,” said Eftichiou, who called on Newman Street to simplify processes, not increase them.

He said such bureaucracy will “expedite the demise of the agent it was set up to protect.”
