The Canada 150 celebrations pushed Air Canada to new heights with nearly one million passengers flown over the six-day holiday period.
It carried a total of 930,000 from June 29 to July 4, with a best ever single day figure of 166,850 customers on June 29.
"As Canadians celebrated our country’s 150th birthday, Air Canada was hard at work safely transporting record numbers of customers to their destinations. This continues to demonstrate that we are the Canadian carrier of choice for travellers," said CEO Calin Rovinescu.
"Our record for passengers carried caps an excellent second quarter during which our EBITDAR, driven by higher revenue and lower than projected fuel costs, is expected to significantly exceed the current average analyst consensus estimate of approximately $475 million."
That gave Air Canada shares a significant bump, edging up to their highest level in more than 10 years.
Full Q2 results are due on August 4 and an analysts’ poll conducted by Thomson Reuters expect Air Canada to post about $19.5 million in net income for the quarter.
