In a period that British Airways has described as “the worst trading environment everâ€, Air France-KLM has reported April to June net profits were down 60% from a year ago.
Passenger numbers rose, however, despite higher fares, by 3.7% in the period.
As airlines cut routes, discuss mergers and increase fares, carriers large and small are struggling to survive.
Air France is currently in talks with French utility firm Veolia to operate rail services in a bid to defray airline costs.
