State run carrier Air India has reportedly removed its operations chief AK Kathpalia from his post and replaced him with A K Govil.
It follows intense media scrutiny after Kathpalia skipped a mandatory pre-flight alcohol test.
As well as head of operations, Kathpalia is also a senior pilot with Air India.
He was suspended for three months from flying duties by regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in February after a flight crew union went public.
According to the Economic Times, an Air India official said Kathpalia has been made executive director of special projects.
A K Govil was most recently executive director of in-flight services at Air India.
