France: Country’s second airline liquidated after fight for survival
Air Lib has finally been liquidated at the request of a French court, putting the airline out of its misery after a long fight to survive.
The beleaguered airline has not flown for several months after the French government withdrew state aid, and despite a long search for investors to save the carrier and a request that the liquidation should be postponed for a last-minute search for investors, it was closed down yesterday.
Some 3,200 workers will lose their jobs and the group’s assets will be put up for sale. As reported by News From Abroad, the carrier, which was once a subsidiary of the bankrupt airline Swissair, flew to Cuba, Algeria and the French Antilles, as well as a number of European destinations.
Air Lib had to ground its fleet earlier this year after it lost its operating licence.
