Budget carrier AirAsia X is targeting the summer to launch its landmark route to the US.
AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said it hopes to start flying to Hawaii in June, and will open ticket sales in February.
As previously announced, the route will depart from its Kuala Lumpur hub with a stop in Osaka, Japan en route to Honolulu.
The 14-hour KL-Osaka-Honolulu route will be operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
"We’re pretty much on target. We are finalising a few things and are planning to fly there by end-June, during summer, the peak time for US travel," he said.
Benyamin said it expects most of demand for the route to come from the Japanese market.
"Hawaii is the number one destination for the Japanese. There are many flights from there (Japan). Yields are very high and we are going to rely on that."
Next up for the airline is a resumption of flights to Europe.
AirAsia X pkans to restart flights to London and Paris but only once it receives new fuel efficient A330 neo jets next year.
The carrier suspended Europe flights four years ago due to high fuel costs.
