In a statement, aviation minister Karen Buck said it should be up to individual travellers to pay for insurance rather than have a levy imposed upon them. She added it would not be fair to impose a charge on all passengers just to bail out a few unlucky passengers stranded overseas. This is not a responsible answer, levy cost of a pound against a purchased policy is the cheapest option. The only explanation that makes sense for this government is appeasment to the airlines.
