Airports bring back 100ml liquid restrictions

Airports bring back 100ml liquid restrictions

Sunday, 09 Jun, 2024 0

Some regional airports in the UK are temporarily reinstating restrictions on carrying liquids over 100ml in carry-on bags.

The rule change began on Sunday, and affects travellers at Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, London City, Aberdeen, Southend and Teesside airports.

These airports recently installed next gen CT security scanners and had previously abolished the 100ml liquid limit.

The Department for Transport stated that the reintroduction of restrictions will allow for ‘further enhancements to the new checkpoint systems.’

It is not due to any specific security threat, it said

Larger UK airports such as London Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester still have restrictions in place as they have not fully implemented the new CT scanners.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the rules have not changed for most passengers and that the measure is temporary.

“It’s a temporary measure and we’ll set out when that can be reversed in due course.”

Which? Travel Editor Rory Boland said: “The rules around travelling with liquids in carry-on bags are becoming increasingly confusing – with different rules at different airports.”
