American selects Sabre for post-merger reservations
American Airlines Group has officially chosen Sabre as its reservation system provider for the merged American Airlines-US Airways network.
The news was hardly a surprise as the larger American Airlines already uses the Sabre reservation system and minimal impact is expected as it integrates the US Airways network.
In fact American Airlines and Sabre have a long shared history.
The GDS was once part of the airline’s parent company AMR Group, before becoming a private company in 2007.
Sabre, which like American, is headquartered in Dallas Fort Worth, recently announced plans for an initial public offering of its stock.
The carrier said full migration to a single reservation platform will be completed in around two years.
Merger partner US Airways also has a history with Sabre, albeit currently a less amicable one.
In April 2011, US Airways filed an antitrust lawsuit against Sabre which responded with a counterclaim earlier his year.
Sabre says US Airways should be subject to the settlement conditions of a similar American Airlines-Sabre lawsuit which was reached in October.
