ANA reprimanded for pilot’s failed alcohol test
Japan’s transport ministry has reprimanded All Nippon Airways over a pilot’s failed breathalyser test late last year.
The ministry issued a business improvement order against ANA.
It relates to a delay at Tokyo Haneda of various flights after a pilot tested positive.
The pilot was later fired.
Earlier in the year another ANA pilot was fired for testing positive.
It is the first official reprimand for ANA although other Japanese airlines have been issued with business improvement orders.
For the past couple of years the transport ministry has been cracking down on a so-called drinking culture in the industry, especially after a high profile conviction of a JAL pilot in the UK.
He was prosecuted after being found nearly 10 times over the country’s legal alcohol limit before a London-Tokyo flight.
The ministry has twice handed down business improvement orders to JAL.
