Another warning for Ryanair
The airport operator TBI has reportedly warned Ryanair that it will face severe penalties if it decides to cut back the number of flights out of Sweden’s Skavsta airport. According to The Independent, Ryanair’s ebullient chief executive Michael O’Leary last month warned that it would terminate services from the airport to Oslo, Aarhus and Tampere if passenger numbers did not improve by the end of the year. The plot thickened a few days later when Ryanair reportedly wrote to the mayor of Skavsta confirming that it was planning a huge increase in services from the airport. But the newspaper today quotes TBI’s chief executive Keith Brooks as saying: “Ryanair is committed to Skavsta in a big way. If they renege on those routes they would suffer severe financial penalties.” Brooks reportedly added that Ryanair was facing problems on the routes in question because it was not operating enough services to meet demand.
