Artful Sacramento
California’s capital is full of interest just waiting to be discovered, as well as a top festival destination of the West Coast.
It is home to a surprising variety of art, music, museums and much more.
Sacramento has art to suit all tastes whether in a museum or on the walls of the city. From Aftershock, the city’s annual rock festival headlined by Guns N’ Roses in 2023, to Sacramento philharmonic orchestra and opera, Sacramento has it all.
The city’s murals
Visitors don’t need to enter a museum to see top notch art in Sacramento, there are over 650 murals painted across the city. This number continues to grow every year when the city hosts the Wide Open Walls festival in August. Artists from the city and across the globe gather to create art on the walls of Sacramento that everyone can enjoy. Both visitors and locals alike gather to watch artists cover the city in color with artwork that is inspired by California, Sacramento and the city’s history and culture.
The Crocker Art Museum
The Crocker Art Museum is a cultural hub for Sacramento, it is known for its collection of California Impressionist art, German drawings and everything ranging from contemporary to antiquity. The museum was originally used to house the Crocker family’s art that they had collected across Europe in the 1870’s. Over time the museum’s collection has since expanded and underwent a $100 million renovation in 2010, it is partially housed inside a Victorian house that has been expertly preserved in its original form.
Performing Arts in Sacramento
Sacramento is home to well respected performing arts groups, including the Sacramento Ballet, which holds performances throughout the year with a festive favouite being the annual Christmas production of The Nutcracker. The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera hold orchestral and operatic concerts throughout the year.

As the ultimate festival destination, what better reason to visit California’s state capital. The city has a festival for just about anything from Kites to beignets, theatre to arts and crafts. Sol Blume is held in Sacramento in August celebrating the best of R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop, followed by the Aftershock rock and metal festival, and Golden Sky country music festival in October. The Farm-to-Fork festival is a must in September. It combines music with the very best of the city’s delicious local farm produce.
