Aussie billionaire revives Titanic dream
An Australian billionaire is once again pursuing his decade long dream of constructing a modern-day Titanic.
Clive Palmer announced a third attempt in the last dozen years and says this time it will happen. His last attempt was disrupted by the Covid pandemic.
“It’s a lot more fun to do the Titanic than it is to sit at home and count my money,” Palmer said at a media briefing.
“We have re-engaged with partners to bring the dream to life. We are getting the best shipbuilders, designers and engineers in the world back on deck to build Titanic ll.”
Palmer chairs Blue Star Line, which is seeking construction tenders for the project. He expects work could start in early 2025.
Titanic 2.0 would measure 269 metres by 32 metres in width with a guest capacity of 2,345.
The original Titanic’s iconic funnels would be part of the new ship.
