Avalon Waterways launches Avalon Affinity
SYDNEY – Avalon Waterways has unveiled its latest river cruise ship, the Avalon Affinity, with a christening on the Rhine in the Netherlands.
The second of five new ships to be built for the cruise line by 2010, the Avalon Affinity features the largest accommodation available on European river cruisers, with staterooms measuring almost 16 square metres and 90 per cent boasting floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic sliding glass doors.
Avalon Waterways managing director Patrick Clark said the delivery of the Avalon Affinity reinforced Avalon Waterways’ position as the fastest-growing river cruise company in the world, offering travellers the youngest fleet of ships, averaging just two years in age.
“When travellers cruise with us, they not only enjoy the destinations they visit, they fall in love with our modern ships which feature all of the personal touches Australian travellers look for in a boutique hotel,†Clark said.
Built at the Den Breejen Shipyard in Holland, the Avalon Affinity set sail on its sold-out maiden cruise from Amsterdam to Paris on May 11.
The Avalon Affinity will sail eight itineraries along the waterways of Europe in 2009.
