BA faces new strike threat
British Airways faces a fresh strike threat as a group of workers rejected a revised pension plan offer by the airline.
Ground staff members of the GMB union covered by the British Airways Pension Plan voted against the deal.
The union will now meet BA chief executive Willie Walsh on Wednesday to discuss “outstanding items”.
The GMB’s national negotiator with BA Ed Blissett said: “The members clearly believe that the current pension offer favours the highest paid workers at BA at the expense of the lowest paid.”
He added: “GMB members do not want to cause the travelling public any inconvenience and so they have asked their negotiators to try to negotiate a settlement. However, GMB cannot rule out the possibility of an industrial action ballot sometime in the future if negotiations are unsuccessful.”
The latest threat of industrial action comes just weeks after BA narrowly avoided a walk-out by cabin crew over pay and sickness absence.
