British Airways has launched an investigation after a ground engineer at Johannesburg Airport reportedly had his legs severed by a jumbo’s landing gear on Sunday.
Reports in the South African press said the man fell under the Boeing 747 as he was trying to position wheel chocks on the jet. They said he became trapped and his legs were severed.
The 283 passengers remained on board the BA55 flight from Heathrow while the man was airlifted to hospital.
BA said a full investigation was being launched and said its thought were with the man injured.
