British Airways will soon scrap first class service on some transatlantic routes served by Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
The carrier announced last week it will no longer offer first class on flights to Las Vegas, Vancouver and Phoenix beyond October 26 as it looks to wind down the operational life of its outdated Boeing 747-400s.
The London Heathrow-Cape Town service will also be affected.
It follows a similar move announced earlier by Lufthansa.
"We understand that this may not be the experience our customers expect and have taken the decision to offer these seats at Club World prices on these routes,” said BA spokeswoman Michele Kropf.
Fares for first class seats on these routes can be as high as $10,000 round trip while Club World seats go for around $6000.
After the October 26 deadline, the carrier hasn’t announced when new aircraft – and the return of first class service – will be deployed on the routes.
