Beijing’s iconic Forbidden City imperial palace complex is back on the tourist trail.
After being shuttered for more than three months as Covid-19 swept through mainland China, it is now open again with a cap on visitor numbers.
The Palace Museum, which manages the Forbidden City, announced a maximum daily limit of 5,000 visitors.
Before the pandemic it welcomed up to 80,000 on busy days.
The landmark had been closed since January 25.
Within half an hour of news it was reopening on May 1, more than 2,500 tickets were sold on the website.
Special measures are in force for all visitors, including mandatory wearing of face masks.
Visitors also need to show verification of their health via a special mobile app before entering.
Temperature checks will be conducted and social distancing measures are in place.
The Beijing government said it will progressively reopen museums and other attractions over the next few days.
