Big rise in travel wages

Big rise in travel wages

Tuesday, 16 Jul, 2024 0

The average salary for a new travel job rose by 12.86% in the first half of 2024.

C&M Travel Recruitment released the 2024 H1 Travel Salary Index which collected new salary data for jobs registered with the company during the first two quarters.

The increase means that the average wage for a new travel job stands at £37,747 and has risen by £4,302 since the first half of 2023.

The increase follows a similar rise of 12.58% in the first six months of last year.

However, much of the increase appears to be for roles with salaries between £40,000 and £55,000.

Despite this, the lack of new roles above £60,000 caused the average senior travel salary (those paying £40,000 and above) to drop.

At the other end of the scale, pay for standard travel jobs (below £40,000) rose by 6.78% to £31,275.

This is a rise of £1,985 from the start of last year.

In the business travel sector, salaries rose 12.52% to an average of £36,046.

However, the business travel jobs market slowed considerably at the start of 2024 with a 61% drop.

Overall travel recruitment fell in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year with the number of new candidates down 11%.

Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: “Wages are certainly rising for some in-demand roles and we are seeing an increasing number of positions that are now offering very attractive salaries.

“However, after the big hike in pay for lower-level roles following the pandemic, wage growth for many of these positions has now stalled.
