BMI wants BA slots
Bmi british midland wants British Airways to surrender its slots at Paris so it can take over the Cardiff to Paris route with its no-frills carrier, bmibaby.
Bmibaby managing director, Tony Davis (pictured) said: “We want to offer passengers in Wales the same convenient flight times that they were used to with BA. If they no longer wish to operate to Paris from Cardiff and serve the people of Wales then they should surrender the slots to an airline that does”.
A BA spokesperson gave TravelMole its response: “The slots in Paris are being used on the London City route, so we are not going to be giving them up”.
Bmibaby currently operates services from Cardiff to Belfast and Jersey, also routes that will be cut by BA in March. Bmibaby is trying to capture the BA passengers that have bookings on the routes.
Mr Davis said: “We also want BA to re-book their passengers onto bmibaby flights to Jersey and Belfast so they can travel from their airport of choice and not be forced to travel to England. The suggestion by BA that the people of Wales will have to travel from English airports is quite frankly offensive”.
But the BA spokesperson told TravelMole that customers booked on the routes will not be forced to fly from England, because they will be given the option of a a full refund or transfer to a different route”.
