Boeing cuts Dreamliner production

Thursday, 24 Oct, 2019 0

Boeing will cut monthly production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner due to slowing orders.

As it revealed its Q3 results, the plane maker said production would slow to 12 jets a month from next year compared to the current 14.

Boeing said it would start cutting 787 production later in 2020 due to the global trade slowdown.

The China market for the popular jet model has slowed down amid the US-China trade war.

Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg said the planned launch of the Boeing 777X is pushed back to early 2021.

The company plans to start flight tests of the widebody jet in early 2020.

Boeing said it booked net orders worth $US5 billion for commercial aircraft during the last quarter.

These included 20 Dreamliners for Korean Air, eight for Air New Zealand, and six 777 freighters to China Airlines.

Boeing still remains confident of getting US regulatory clearance for its new 737 Max software updates before the end of the year.

Revenues for Boeing’s commercial airplanes division were down 41% in the last quarter from $14.1 billion to $8.2 billion.
