Butlin’s to remove all plastic straws from resorts
Butlin’s will end the use of plastic straws on all three of its resorts in June 2018.
Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness currently use more than two million straws a year but drinks will either be served with paper straws or no straws at all.
Butlin’s is also looking at alternatives to its use of plastic stirrers, cutlery and cups.
Managing director Dermot King said: "As a brand that is proud to be part of coastal towns and wants to be a good, responsible neighbour, we feel we must be proactive and take these steps to reduce our plastic waste and contribute to the global challenge of eliminating unnecessary single-use plastics.
"The sea and seaside are integral parts of a Butlin’s break, and therefore we need to do all we can to help protect them for generations to come."
The holiday park operator is also reviewing its recycling initiatives.
Instead of rubbish being collected from the resorts and recycled off-site, Butlin’s is looking to increase the amount of different recycling bin options in resorts to ensure guests can place their waste items into the right bins.
