Calais strike causes severe disruption
Ferry passengers travelling from Dover to Calais today (Friday) are experiencing major delays due to strike action at the French port.
P&O Ferries warned passengers yesterday that its services would be subject to severe disruption and advised them to change their bookings to another day.
"P&O Ferries clearly regrets a situation beyond its control and will endeavour to keep any delays to a minimum," it said.
The Port of Dover advised passengers, where possible, to travel through Dover before midday.
"Due to high volumes of traffic and potential disruptions there may be queues on the approach roads. Please do allow plenty of time for your journey,” it said.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office also warned passengers about the large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais who might try to use the opportunity to get into the UK illegally.
“Although local police patrols have been reinforced, you should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure your vehicle when it is left unattended," it said.
