Canada, Mexico border closures extended
The US, Canada and Mexico have all agreed to keep their shared borders closed to tourism for another 30 days at least.
Acting secretary of homeland security Chad Wolf said restriction have helped slow the Covid-19 spread but more needs to be done.
Cross-border restrictions have been in place since March.
The latest extension restricts traffic across the borders until August 21.
That means still no travel for tourism or shopping into and out of Canada or Mexico.
It allows freight only traffic across borders and essential travel for certain people such as healthcare professionals.
It seems to be a welcome decision for Canadians.
An Ipsos survey last week for Global News found 80% of Canadians want the US-Canada border to stay closed until the end of 2020 at least.
More than 90% said they consider it too risky to travel south to the US this summer.
