Canadian airline consolidator eying US
The Montreal, Quebec-based airline consolidation provider Openfares, which recently added hotels to its air offerings, is looking to expand in the US, Europe and the Middle East.
“We already had 85% of consolidators in Canada using our system,” said Louis Mercier, president and CEO. “So we needed to look at other markets.” He said about half of its business is already in the US.
“We added hotels because we were already doing airlines, so it seemed like a logical extension,” he added.
He made his comments at the 2005 ResExpo, where Openfares was among exhibitors.
Openfares was created by Mr Mercier four years ago. The company says it allows wholesalers and retailers to offer the broadcast and cheapest international fare possible combined with the best published domestic or international fares.
He said browser-based fare management software handles transactions ranging from simple to complex.
