Lufthansa has agreed a tie-up with Cathay Pacific to route passengers via Hong Kong for long haul Europe-Australasia flights.
A codeshare agreement will see Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines put their respective airline codes on Cathay flights departing Hong Kong to Auckland, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney starting on April 26.
Lufthansa already codeshares with Star Alliance carriers Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways via Singapore and Bangkok.
Cathay Pacific will also place the ‘CX’ code on 14 flights to European destinations via Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian including Frankfurt, Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, Brussels and Oslo.
"This new codeshare agreement will offer Cathay Pacific passengers enhanced connectivity to destinations in continental Europe through flights operated by Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines via our gateways in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Zurich," said Cathay Pacific chief executive Ivan Chu.
Cathay Pacific’s Marco Polo Club members will also earn miles on the codeshare flights which can be redeemed as normal and counted toward tier status.
