Cathay Pacific posts improved passenger traffic for June

Cathay Pacific posted its June passenger traffic data for June 2024, and marked a new post pandemic record.

On the final day of the month, Cathay Pacific and sister brand HK Express carried a combined 92,000 passengers.

This is the highest daily total since the pandemic.

It takes the number of passengers in the first six months of 2024 to approximately 13.5 million.

Cathay Pacific carried a total of 1,837,706 passengers in June 2024, which is an increase of 18.7% year-on-year.

The month’s revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs) increased 23.7%.

However, passenger load factor was down by 4.2 percentage points to 83.5%.

This was down partly due to 30% extra seat capacity.

Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau said: “Following a slightly quieter month in May, travel sentiment rebounded with leisure travel on both long-haul and short-haul routes.”

Demand for long-haul travel was driven by the peak season for returning student traffic. Load factors for the North America, UK and Europe were all close to 90%.”
