The Philippines’ largest low cost carrier Cebu Pacific will soon launch services to the US.
According to Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation (CAPA), the first US routes will be Honolulu and Guam.
CAPA officials said Cebu Pacific plans to first launch flights to Guam by the end of 2014 using its A320 fleet, and subject to clearance for extended range twin-engine operations, it will operate to Honolulu.
"We have applied to the FAA for our operating permit to fly to the US," Alex Reyes, head of Cebu Pacific’s long haul division confirmed.
The move was spurred by the FAA upgrading the Philippine aviation industry to Category 1 status in April, allowing it to fly routes in US airspace.
"We are particularly interested Guam and Honolulu," said Reyes.
"We want to reach destinations through nonstop operations via our Airbus A320 for Guam and Airbus A330 for Honolulu".
Cebu Pacific also flies long haul to Dubai and plans to add further destinations in the Middle East, including Sharjah.
