Mobile payment solutions provider CellPoint Mobile has tapped travel tech executive Shiraz Malik as vice president of sales – APAC to head up its new regional office in Singapore.
Malik joins CellPoint Mobile after more than five years as Asia Pacific solutions partner for Sabre Airline Solutions.
He was previously IT sales and account manager for Mercator, which is the technology unit for the Emirates Group, and was an implementation manager for British Airways.
"Not only is the Asia-Pacific market enjoying continued passenger growth or more than 8%, it is also serving as a world leader in the evolution of mobile-first commerce and mobile payments," said CellPoint Mobile CEO Kristian Gjerding.
"Because of his expertise with mobile commerce, mobile trends and payments solutions, and his knowledge of the Asia-Pacific market, Shiraz is a valuable asset for our company and our airline clients."
Asia-Pacific is slated to overtake the US next year as the world’s biggest digital travel sales market, according to a eMarketer report recently published.
Cellpoint Mobile develops payment and commerce tools for global travel companies and airlines, which includes the integration of branded mobile wallets and fraud monitoring for airline loyalty programs.
