Spanish budget carrier clickair has started flying between Gatwick and Vigo in northern Spain.
The move marks the first time that there has been a direct air route between London and Spain’s Pontevedra province in South Galicia.
Flights will operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on an Airbus A320.
The airline predicts it will carry around 60,000 passengers on the route, its sixth Spanish service from the UK, in its first year of operation. It already flies from the UK to Seville, Bilbao, Valencia, La Coruna and Barcelona.
Vigo is known for its historic buildings and fortifications and active port which supports much of the city’s industry. Its airport, Peinador, has recently undergone significant infrastructure improvements in anticipation if the new service.
