Cruise guests busted for smuggling 500 prohibited aquatic items
U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized more than 500 prohibited aquatic items from a couple disembarking a cruise ship in New Orleans. The CBP Agriculture Specialist found 509 aquatic items ranging from seashells, coral, sea fans, sea urchins and molluscs.
They had enjoyed a western Caribbean cruise which called in Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Due to the quantity, it was deemed an illegal commercial shipment of wildlife without a USFWS import/export license.
