Cuba tours near sell-outs

Tuesday, 6 March 20123 min read

Austin-Lehman Adventures says its new “Real Cuba” tours are almost sold out and only limited availability remains on three of its six 9-day,8-night group cultural tours introduced last month.

“These remaining scheduled departures are April 28-May 6, May 26-June 3 and June 9-17. However ALA anticipates that 25 percent of its Cuba travel bookings will come from custom itineraries with travelers requesting their own private group dates,” the company says.

The per person (double occupancy) rate on a set departure is from $4,498 inclusive of a roundtrip charter flight from Miami to Havana. The US government is only allowing a limited amount of companies such as Austin to offer tours.

“Our trips are true people-to-people exchanges, accomplishing what the U.S. Treasury Department- issued license for US tour companies is intended to do,” said Dan Austin, founder and owner. He said his company was the only tour operator offering tours capped at just a dozen participants and staffed by two English-speaking guides.

“The key to the most meaningful experiences is to keep our groups small so that we can comfortably access exclusive and rewarding people-to-people exchanges,” he said.

He added that other tour groups typically consist of 20 to 40 people.
