Delta flight delayed after e-cigarette catches fire

A Delta Air Lines flight suffered a short delay on the tarmac at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport after an e-cigarette device ignited inside the cabin.
The vaping equipment was found smoking inside a passenger’s carry-on bag.
There were no injuries or damage to the aircraft, Delta said, and emergency personnel were able to extinguish the e-cigarette without evacuating the 166 passengers and crew on board the McDonnell Douglas MD90 aircraft.
Delta flight 689 eventually took off for St. Louis about 20 minutes behind schedule.
"A customer’s bag ignited from an e-cigarette. The bag was safely extinguished with no damage to the aircraft," Delta said in a statement.
Following a recent update in US Department of Transportation’s regulations, all battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices have to be placed in carry-on bags and not in the cargo hold.
Recharging batteries on board is forbidden according to US DOT rules.
