Delta offers automatic check in for iOS app users
Delta passengers with an iPhone are now spared one on the biggest hassles of air travel.
Travelers with the updated Fly Delta iOS app will now be automatically checked in by default 24 hours ahead of departure with boarding passes sent direct to their smartphones.
Other app updates include the ability to enroll in the SkyMiles program directly from the app.
Before the boarding pass is issued, flyers will need to acknowledge and accept restrictions on banned items.
It will speed up the process for flyers traveling light but the current procedures will still be necessary for checked bags or if a change of seat is requested.
Currently it seems to be only available for iOS smartphone users and the update states: "We’ve eliminated the check-in process. Your boarding pass will automatically appear 24 hours before your flight."
Delta is the first US airline to offer the service while German flag carrier has a similar automatic check-in option.
