Delta reports yet another IT outage

Monday, 30 January 20173 min read
Another week, another IT outage at a major US airline.
Like a similar incident with United Airlines a week earlier, a ground stop was put on all Delta Air Lines’ domestic flights late on Sunday but international services were not affected.
The more than two-hour grounding caused delays and harsh words from disrupted passengers.
Responding to a wave of complaints on social media, the carrier was ‘working hard to get it fixed quickly to minimize the impact to our customers.’
Some flyers complained of being left without information for hours.
Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant gave no other details other than describing it as a ‘systems outage.’
The ground stop notification from the Federal Aviation Administration was a little clearer, giving ‘automation issues’ as the primary reason.
Delta said the ground stop was lifted after about two and a half hours and was working to get operations back up to speed.
Reports said delays were occurring at airports around the country including Atlanta, New York and Houston.
Last Sunday United Airlines’ domestic services were grounded for a similar length of time.
Last August, Delta reported a major glitch after a hardware breakdown at its operations center, forcing it to cancel more than 2,000 flights over several days.
It cost the airline tens of millions of dollars.
