Delta settles passenger refund lawsuit
Delta Air Lines has settled a class-action lawsuit over pandemic-era refunds.
The lawsuit accused the airline of long delays in issuing flight refunds and in doing so breached conditions of carriage.
According to the settlement Delta will pay the full refund value cost plus 7% interest of the original ticket cost.
Delta says it has refunded over 11 million bookings worth $6 billion.
The class-action was filed in the Northern District of Georgia, and alleges Delta has embarked on ‘unfair, deceptive, and unjust conduct’
The plaintiffs had requested a trial while Delta denied claims it had mishandled flight refund requests and breached conditions.
The airline was making it ‘difficult, if not impossible, for consumers to receive any refund on pandemic cancelled flights.’
Under the settlement terms refunds will be issued for flights up to April 30, 2021.
Customers must have requested refunds through Delta only received flight credits instead.
Delta is required to send out notices about the settlement by August 28.
Passengers who qualify for the settlement must make a claim by September 15.
