Delta warms customers of third party cyberattack
Delta Air Lines has warned that some customers’ payment data may have been compromised.
The airline said a cyber attack took place last fall via a third party company that provided Delta with online chat services.
It said customer’s payment information may have been accessed but not information such as SkyMiles account data, passport numbers or IDs.
The chat services company, [24]7.ai, notified Delta last week they discovered a ‘cyber incident’ which took place from September 26 to October 12 2017.
"Even though only a small subset of our customers would have been exposed, we cannot say definitively whether any of our customers’ information was actually accessed or subsequently compromised," Delta said in a statement.
"We appreciate and understand that this information is concerning to our customers. We will also directly contact customers who may have been impacted by the [24]7.ai cyber incident. In the event any of our customers’ payment cards were used fraudulently as a result of the [24]7.ai cyber incident, we will ensure our customers are not responsible for that activity."
[24]7.ai utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer a predictive customer experience for brands.
It also provides similar services for Copa Airlines.
