EasyJet extends global reach with new Etihad deal

Sunday, 14 Jan, 2020 0

EasyJet has started selling connections to Etihad’s flights after the UAE carrier became the latest to join its Worldwide by EasyJet service, which was launched in 2017.

The two airlines have signed a partnership agreement which means that easyJet customers can book connecting flights between 68 cities in Europe to Abu Dhabi and beyond.

Flights will connect at 10 European airports in Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Rome, Geneva, Madrid, Manchester, Milan Malpensa, and Zurich.

Etihad said the deal means easyJet can sell travel between Europe and Africa, the Azores and the UAE.

The collaboration comes into effect immediately.

The partnership follows easyJet’s rollout of flight comparison search engine, Dohop, which connects its European network with long-haul flights. The deal with easyJet sees Etihad using the NDC for the first time, but it said it plans to add more airlines and travel partners to its NDC portfolio this year.

Ali Saleh, Etihad Airways’ VP alliances and partnerships, said: "EasyJet is a perfect launch partner for us in Europe, allowing us to reliably increase the breadth of our continental reach to and from Abu Dhabi, as we enhance ways of connecting directly with more airlines and travel partners around the world.

"The ability to provide end-to-end booking capabilities through our NDC platform will provide customers with ‘one stop’ solutions for seamless travel with partners, whether legacy or low-cost, through Etihad’s global gateways."

Rachel Smith, easyJet’s head of commercial partnerships, added: "We’re excited to announce our partnership with Etihad Airways, which opens up Abu Dhabi as a destination to our passengers and more of Europe to Etihad."

Both airlines plan to expand the partnership to include more destinations in the future, said Etihad.

Worldwide by easyJet promises passengers minimum connection times and if they miss their connecting flight, they are re-booked onto the next available service.
