EasyJet pilots balloted over October half-term strike
EasyJet is facing the threat of strike action by some of its pilots over the October half term holiday.
The BALPA union is currently balloting on industrial action and a decision is due to be made later this month.
In a letter to pilots, leaked to The Daily Telegraph, BALPA said it was in dispute with the low-cost airline over ‘pilot fatigue’.
The union said fatigue has risen year on year to ‘unacceptable’ levels and this had forced it to take ‘such extreme measures’.
EasyJet said it hopes to avoid a strike.
The airline said: "EasyJet can reassure its passengers that no industrial action is currently planned by its UK pilots.
"Although BALPA has informed us they are balloting their members, EasyJet and BALPA continue to work together as we are both committed to finding a resolution to the issues raised and we still hope to reach a mutually agreeable solution."
BALPA general secretary Brian Strutton said: "I can confirm that formal negotiations between BALPA and EasyJet regarding a trade dispute have concluded without agreement and we are therefore conducting an industrial action ballot.
"The ballot is currently taking place and will close on September 21. We do not intend to issue any further information at this stage."
