EasyJet has begun flying to Istanbul with the launch of a service from Luton.
The budget airline is to serve the Turkish city three times a week during August, rising to a daily frequency from September 4.
The move into Turkey follows recent route launches to ther destinations outside the European Union such as Rijeka and Split in Croatia and Marrakech in Morocco.
A statement said: “EasyJet realises that whilst expanding outside of the EU is more complex, there is a great potential for growth in these markets and consumers are getting more adventurous with their travel plans.”
The airline’s London marketing manager Paul Cable described the Istanbul service launch as “probably our most significant expansion from Luton in the last few years”.
Flights start at £30.99 one-way including taxes and charges.
