FCO warns of Mexico protests

Friday, 6 January 20173 min read

Visitors to Mexico are being warned to take care as protests take place across the country against petrol price rises.

Protestors have blocked highways and looted and vandalised shops and businesses, leading to more than 250 arrests.

They have also burned tyres on the road and seized petrol stations following the Government’s decision to raise fuel prices by between 14-20% from January 1.

"If you’re in an area where a protest is taking place follow the advice of the local authorities," said the Foreign Office.
